Fill Your Heart With Gratitude

Updated: Jul 1, 2020

Gratitude means appreciation, counting your blessings, enjoying small pleasures and remembering all that you get. It means learning to live your life as though it were all a blessing, and being constantly conscious of how much you have been given. Gratitude transfers the attention from what's missing in the life to the abundance already there.

Notice and Appreciate Each Day’s Gifts

People tend to take the good that's already present in their lives for granted. There is an exercise of gratitude that instructs you to imagine losing some of the things you take for granted, such as your home, your ability to see or hear, your ability to walk, or anything that comforts you at present.

Then imagine getting back, one by one, each of these things and think how happy you will be for each and every one. Moreover, you need to start finding joy in the little things rather than holding out for big achievements such as getting the promotion,

having a comfortable nesting egg saved up , getting married, having the baby, and so on before allowing yourself to feel gratitude and joy.

Another way to use giving thanks to a more complete understanding of life is to use gratitude to help you place things in their proper context. When things don't go your way, note that each challenge holds the seeds of an equal or greater reward within it. You ask yourself, in the face of adversity: "What's good about this? "What am I able to learn from this? "And how can I take advantage of this?

There are Many Ways to Practice Gratitude

A common approach for cultivating the practice of gratitude is to maintain a journal of gratitude, a term made popular by the book "Simple Abundance Journal of Gratitude" by Sarah Ban Breathnach. the exercise consists simply of writing down a list of three to ten items every day for which you are grateful; you can do this first thing in the morning or before going to bed at night. Another exercise you may undertake is to write a letter of appreciation to a person who has had a positive influence in your life but to whom you have not thanked properly. Some experts recommend you set up a meeting with that person and read them face to face with the letter.

Conclusion

If you're focused on finding things to be thankful for, you'll find that you're starting to appreciate small pleasures and stuff you've taken for granted before. Gratitude should not be just a reaction to getting what you want, but a gratitude all the time, the kind where you remember the small things and where you are always looking for the positive even in difficult circumstances.Start to add appreciation to your experiences now, rather than waiting for a good encounter to feel grateful; in this way, you will be on your way to being a master of appreciation.
